Open the door to its halfway point and release the handle slowly. A balanced door will hover in place or move very little. If the door crashes down, the springs are under-wound or too weak.

If the door pulls upward on its own, the springs are over-wound. Both issues require immediate adjustment. This prevents the motor from straining and failing prematurely.

Checking Track Movement

Keep the door in manual mode and slide it through its full range. Listen for any grinding, squeaking, or scraping sounds. A proper spring replacement ensures whisper-quiet operation.

The rollers should glide effortlessly. If the door sticks or “hiccups,” the tension may be uneven between the two springs. Equal force prevents the door from twisting and protects the tracks from bending.

Observing the Automatic Cycle

Re-engage the opener and run a full cycle using the wall button. The movement should be fluid and consistent. Watch the motor closely for straining or loud humming.
